As I travel across the country people that I run into are intrigued about the colors that I wear. It is mostly men who are shocked at how I am able to pull off wearing such bold, vibrant colors and still maintain a high standard of masculinity.  When I was growing up, I could always remember my uncle telling my mom to stop dressing me in the color red.  Well, my mom being her own person continued to dress me in red and as I grew older color became a part of my everyday fashion norm.

I am sure that if you are a male, like me, you grew up hearing the statement "it takes a real man to wear the pink".  Well, that's true, but it also takes a real man to wear red, green, blue or any color on the wheel.  I hope that after reading the information below you have a deeper appreciation for knowing what color means in your everyday fashion life.

Recently a young man at my church approached me asking what he should wear to a job interview.  Without telling him what he should wear I asked him what message did he want to give off.  After he told me the message that he wanted to give off, I shared with him the article on "WHAT YOUR CLOTHING COLORS SAY ABOUT YOU".

The information shared below is written from the perspective of not only what color says but what it says in relation to going on a job interview. After reading, please email me at president@jermainelanderson.com and share with me your thoughts on what was shared.

What your clothing colors say about you...

When selecting an outfit to make an impression, whether for a career fair, interview, or networking event, colors matter as much as the clothing you select. Colors do say something to us subliminally, and illicit very different emotional responses.  So be conscious of this when selecting which of your favorite shirts or blouses to wear in a business setting.

WHAT DO THE COLORS MEAN?

BLACK
Black is the color of authority and power.  It is popular in fashion because it makes people appear thinner, and is stylish and timeless.  But avoid to much black or you may seem unapproachable.

GRAY
One of the most popular colors to wear to an interview, gray represents sophistication and confidence.  As it is not a distracting color, the interviewer will be more focused on what you have to say that what you're wearing.

WHITE
White is popular in fashion because it is light, neutral and goes with everything.  Wearing it to an interview projects cleanliness and simplicity.

RED
The most emotionally intense and aggressive color, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing.  It is also the color of love and passion.  Red clothing gets noticed, but makes the wearer appear heavier.  Since it is such an intense color, red might not be helpful in your interview.

YELLOW
Cheerful, sun yellow is an attention-getter.  It is the most difficult color for the eye to perceive, so it can be overpowering if used.  Yellow enhances concentration, hence its use for legal notepads.

GREEN
Green symbolizes nature,  It is the easiest color on the eye, and is calming and refreshing.  Dark green is masculine, conservative and implies wealth.

BLUE
The color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colors.  Peaceful, tranquil blue causes the body to produce calming chemicals.  Fashion consultants recommend wearing blue to job interviews because it symbolizes loyalty and control.

PURPLE
The color of royalty, purple connotes luxury, wealth and sophistication.  Yes, it is probably not a good color for an interview, because it is perceived as feminine, romantic and because it is rare in nature, purple can be artificial.

BROWN
Solid, reliable brown is the color of earth and is abundant in nature.  Light brown implies genuineness.  If worn to an interview, brown reflects stability and promotes communication.

Now after saying all of that above if you know me you know that I break all of the color, pattern and fashion barriers.  I can do that because I am the President and CEO of Jermaine L Anderson dot com.  You too can break these barriers when you are your own boss, but until then remember that your clothing colors say something about you and only you control what they say.
